The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center welcomes volunteers to help with all museum operations from carving demonstrations, school programs, daily greeters, event organization, Master Gardener landscaping projects, office assistance and building maintenance. In 2011 the Core Sound Corner Store was opened in Morehead City at 4950 Arendell Street - Marketplace and is fully run by volunteers from across the county. The Corner Store is open on Friday and Saturday and volunteers are very much needed. All proceeds from the Corner Store operation go to support museum programs and events focusing on local heritage that are offered year round. The museum houses the area's finest collection of carvings and waterfowl art and archives oral histories and artifacts from the Down East communities. Volunteers are needed to help with programs for school groups and bus tours, to assist staff with administrative duties and to serve on committees and boards. For more information on the museum, see our Attractions chapter.
