December 2017 The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum Heritage Center opens its doors the first weekend in December and offers a slate full of Down East traditions, including decoy carving, boat building, local seafood cooking, music storytelling and a select group of artists, model boat builders and decoy carvers from the Southeast. This weekend celebration is an extension of the Island's Decoy Festival weekend that now includes churches, crafters, and nonprofit organizations. Waterfowl Weekend can be found "at the end of the road" on Harkers Island with shuttles running to and from Harkers Island School and the Decoy Festival. There are many other special events — such as the preview party and seafood extravaganza — the Friday night of the weekend, so call the museum for the latest information.
